Invitation to stand to represent Argyll as Trustee for National Trust for Scotland

Herre is an opportunity to help the heritage of Argyll and Scotland too, by standing as a Trustee for the National Trust for Scotland.

The charity which, in Argyll, owns and cares for the beautiful Arduaine and Crarae Gardens in Mid Argyll; and the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Hill House in Helensburgh, is looking for NTS members to put themselves forward for spots on its Board – the terms of office of five Trustees come to an end this September [2015].

New trustees are selected by a vote invoving the conservation charity’s 330,000 members – and to be conducted later this year.

It is an exciting time for the Trust as the senior team is changing.

Chairman Elect Sir Moir Lockhead takes over from Sir Kenneth Calman in May; and the search for a new Chief Executive is also underway as Kate Mavor moves on after 6 years, often turbulent, with  a particular incident involving Arduaine Garden as one of a welter of properties the Trust planned to close and mothball or sell.

The Chair at that time, Shonaig McPherson, who was at the heart of this initiative, decided in 2009 not to seek a second term, with Sir George Reid, first Presiding Officer of the Scottish Paarliament taking her place as a soothing presence after the upheavals.

Serving Board Member Veronica Morriss says she has found the role to be very positive and enjoyable: ‘It is a remarkable time to be a Trustee. If you too are committed to the work of the National Trust for Scotland and have relevant skills or knowledge in whatever capacity, I heartily recommend this role.’

The charity is keen to draw applications from a wide spectrum of members – especially those with a commitment to the strategic direction of the Trust.

This will  be a challenging and interesting role and representation for Argyll would be valuable.

Anyone interested in getting more information on this should visit the National Trust for Scotland website here for information; or contact Nicola Whyte 0844 493 2285. T

he closing date for applications is 22nd April 2015.
